Urban Pugs Rule!
Getting a new dog to love life in our loft facilitated the need for a new digital camera. Here are a few examples of why urban living Pugs rock our world.

It has been a while since I have posted much on this site (my apologies, I am sure you are all hurt beyond repair) but I received this from a great friend. I thought it was worthy of passing on - and, besides, I love watching Flamenco dancers. Here are the details:

Prepare to be transported to Spain in a swirl of colours and evocative rhythms! The Guadalquivir, southern Spain's longest and most important river, is the inspiration for Flamenco Rosario's latest production, subtitled “The Great River: A Flamenco Journey.

As expected, the Zombie Walk 2005 in Vancouver was a total success!
Flickr has over 800 photos snapped at the event and are worth a look. There are some pretty hot zombies in Vancouver.
I hope you can find me in there!

I received an e-mail regarding a change to the location of the Vancouver Zombie Walk 2005:
"*****NOTE CHANGE TO FINAL DESTINATION*****
The park at 8th and Brunswick.
We can pretend it's a cemetery. After all, who knows what's buried under everything . . . the consensus seems to have been: skytrain good; cemetery good, but too far and skytrain better. So park it is - there will still be games and fun, an a whole block of grass to wander about and fall down on. Plus - it's close to Video In (1965 Main Street) - which is where everyone should go after the zombiewalk for more zombie fun! [..]"

I had forgotten.
My parents hadn't been born yet when the bombs destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But, even I know, we should not forget this moment in our history.
I found this web site that has a model of Hiroshima "before and after".

So, do you like Mead?
You do?
Well, have I got the site for you. If you like to make mead, drink mead, think about mead, or want to dive into a large pool full of mead - then we need you. A new site in Vancouver called Meadworks.ca needs mead making bloggers and mead specialists to join. We want to build the largest on line resource site in the world but also have a community where people will be able to chat about mead and record their mead making experiences.
Come check it out!

I just ran across this today on Vancouver Indie's blog. The Vancouver ZombieWalk 2005!
ZOMBIEWALK 2005!!!
Usually held in Toronto, this shambling, stumbling, flailing good time will be held in Vancouver this year! Yay us! So if you have a mild obsession with Zombies (as many of my friends do), or you simply love to get rotten and yell "Braaaaiiins" at random people, then mark this one on your calendar:
Saturday, August 27 - starts 4pm from the VAG and 5pm from 15th and Sophia
(near Main St).
(a month away, so you have plenty of time to plan to be there!)
The walk will start in two-stages as follows:
1. All non-lazy zombies (or "super zombies") are invited to gather on or around the big steps at the Vancouver Art Gallery no later than 4pm. From the VAG the horde will be skytrain bound. After a stumble through the mall and a short jaunt on Vancouver's fine public transit system we will de-train at Main St. station and stumble on up to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church - 320 East 15th - two blocks east of Main. Once there, we will take a short pause to collect ourselves, gnaw on brains, and meet up with . . .
2. The lazy zombies. A second group of zombies will gather in front of the above mentioned church (Bethlehem Lutheran, 320 East 15th, at Sophia and E 15th) at or around 5pm. Remember - zombies tend to move slowly and occasionally have problems with limbs falling off, body stiffness and possibly skytrain security officers. If you do not see any of your brethren exactly at 5pm, be patient. Mill about and look scary.

I wouldn't normally post something like this on Urban Vancouver, but I thought it appropriate since James Doohan was born in Vancouver in 1920.
If you haven't heard already, James Montgomery Doohan has passed away.
James Doohan, the burly chief engineer of the Starship Enterprise in the original "Star Trek" TV series and motion pictures who responded to the apocryphal command "Beam me up, Scotty," died early Wednesday. He was 85.
Doohan died at 5:30 a.m. (1330 GMT) at his Redmond, Washington, home with his wife of 28 years, Wende, at his side, Los Angeles agent and longtime friend Steve Stevens said. The cause of death was pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease, he said.
My grandmother passed away from problems due to Alzheimer's. My heart goes out to his family. Like Bones, Scotty will be remembered.

What I suspect will happen now is there will be a flood of interest in what the G8 Summit is and then - nothing. Perhaps there will be most protest marches (possibly) but then I don't think there will be much else.
I wish I had a much more positive outlook on the world and the human race, but lately, I haven't had a whole lot of faith in the world.
