slippery nipples at the poker night

By moritherapy on June 5, 2006 - 10:07pm

last friday about 35 of us had a poker night to raise funds for the weekend to end breast cancer. it was a hoot! i had a title to defend - together with anita, i had won the last poker tournament (for big brothers) that my husband's company, trade business forms, had put on in april. (i still don't know why i won - i hardly ever play poker).

no, i didn't win this time. was it because i started off the night with a double shooter of slippery nipples? or was it because the only times i won was when i had 10's? at one point i actually had 4 tens (perhaps the best hand in the whole tournament) - but i was so low on chips that i was only able to draw about $15 out of my opponents' pockets.

oh well, it was all for fun anyway, and for a good cause. glenn's co-workers at trade were awesome - thanks cam, michelle, steve, len, dan and everyone else! keith was the big winner - he took home $510. he and ted were the only ones left over, and if ted had imbibed a few less drops of booze ... who knows ...

talking about booze. we were bozos about the booze. glenn offered to buy the beer and i accepted ... and ... well ... somehow all that black label didn't go over too well. hmmm .... ok, so next time we'll ask glenn to take on a different task.

buy-low supports the weekend to end breast cancer

By moritherapy on June 2, 2006 - 3:43pm

last saturday, we had a blast at the south hill days, a great little community fair for the fraser street community. as i said, the buy-low very generously gave all the proceeds from their hot dog sale to our team at the vancouver weekend to end breast cancer.

how much was that, you ask?

guess!

it lasted from 12-3. three hours. and there were people lining up right from the beginning. it was a great deal, too: $2 for a hot dog (with a nice fat smokey, not one of those wimpy plasticky pseudo wieners!), a drink, and a little bag of chips. great deal.

so how much did we make?

one thousand dollars!

isn't that abso-FRIGGIN-amazing??? three hours, $1,000.

it all goes to our team, the one headed by haedy. haedy has been dealing with breast cancer for three years now, and the weekend to end breast cancer walk is one of the things that keeps inspiring her in her fight.

so a great thanks to the buy low!

once i've figured out how to post images on this board, you'll get a photo of the event, too.

ok, on to our poker night!

the vancouver weekend to end breast cancer 2006

By moritherapy on May 30, 2006 - 7:11pm

hi everyone

until august 22, this blog is going to be my official record of my comings and goings around my participation in this year's weekend to end breast cancer.

on the weekend our team was working our little bee-hinds off. first i participated in the south hills days in my neighbourhood, on 47th and fraser. the buy-low very generously gave us all the money they made from the hot dogs and pop. we'll find out tomorrow how much that brought in.

in the evening, sacred space held an auction, which yielded $2,300.

and on sunday night, our team mate brenda had a latin night, which was again a big success.

phew. lots of work.

but we don't stand still - on friday we'll have a poker night.

i'm doing this for my friend haedy. i want her to hang around in this world. for that, she needs some scientist to find a miracle cure, and soon.
