Join the Turning Point Ensemble in celebrating the centenary of Vancouver’s first composer and one of Canada’s cultural treasures, Jean Coulthard. Born on Feb. 10th, 1908, Coulthard’s life and work tell the story of the transformation of Vancouver from its early years as a cultural backwater to a vibrant and sophisticated international centre. Our concert captures Couthard’s artistry and world through presenting one of her most significant late works, the Shelley Portrait for mezzo soprano and four instruments, alongside the work of her beloved Claude Debussy, and Gustav Mahler. Joining the ensemble for the chamber version of Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer and the Couthard songs is the outstanding Vancouver mezzo soprano Sarah Fryer.
