The Addiction Services, Public Education Series, is a community service of Vancouver Coastal Health. This program is free and open to anyone who is interested in addiction, alcohol and other drugs.
There are 6 sessions, 1) what is addiction, 2) drugs and the body, 3) recovery, 4) family issues, 5) helping others, 6) drugs in our society-a public health approach to drug control. Participants who complete all six sessions will receive a certificate upon completion. This ongoing program occurs every Friday morning from 9:30-11:30 on drop-in basis, no registration is required. Singles Fitness Boot Camp!

Do you want to get in shape and meet new singles at the same time? At Singles Bootcamp you get a chance to do that and a whole lot more. You will have the opportunity to take part in a one month Bootcamp that includes fitness and health assessments, interactive exercises, daily health tips, and one hell of a butt kicking!

Over a one month period you will participate in two sessions a week. The Bootcamp begins with a fitness assessment so that everyone has a starting point and is able to measure their improvement at the end.
The pre and post assessment consist of:
• A weigh-in and body fat assessment
• A cardiovascular endurance test
• A muscular endurance test
• A core stability test

Throughout the sessions your group will participate in interactive exercises. The exercises will range in difficulty to accommodate all participants at any fitness level. Every session will start with a warm up, then a cardio portion, followed by strength and core exercises. All flexibility segments will then follow in which you will be given stretching exercises to complete as your body cools down. Each class will finish with a post-workout snack and socializing.

On Monday, June 30th at 8:00pm, twelve composers share their inner reflections on outer space in Cosmophony - a concert of solo piano pieces inspired by the beauty and mystery of our solar system. Acclaimed pianist Rachel Iwaasa, widely known for her bold and innovative performances, takes the stage of the intimate Star Theatre in the HR MacMillan Space Centre to present a dynamic solo recital unlike any other. The concert takes place in darkness, punctuated by stunning celestial images projected onto the overhead panoramic screens of the theatre.

This event will feature world premieres by some of Canada's most distinct creative musical voices. Nine composers will present their unique meditation on a specified planet, in a musical portrayal of our solar system with new works by composers Rodney Sharman (Mercury), Marci Rabe (Venus), Alexander Pechenyuk (Earth), Jocelyn Morlock (Mars), Chris Kovarik (Jupiter), Jeffrey Ryan (Saturn), Stefan Udell (Uranus), Jennifer Butler (Neptune) and Emily Doolittle (Gliese 581c. Newly discovered, April 2007).
