Repent Sinner Identified?

Repent Sinner Identified?

By Richard Eriksson on August 16, 2004 - 1:24pm

There's been much discussion about Repent Sinner lately (see Shane's comments here at Urban Vancouver, Ross Laird's comments also at Urban Vancouver, Todd's comments at holycola.net, and Darren's link to the hunt for Repent Sinner), and in a comment to Shane's post about "Repent Sinner's" other message, an anonymous reader says they might have identified the person responsible:

It was a black woman, homeless and crazy, sitting behind a big red banner with a cart thing that old ladies take their groceries home in, with a table set with those religious tracts that you find on the SkyTrain, and a centerpiece of a big plastic REPENT SINNER wrapped in plastic clingwrap, and a battered old Bible. I went over to her, in the stupidest thing I've ever done, and I asked her if I could buy her sign. She said no. I told her I've give her five bucks for her sign. She said no. I noticed she had a donations can, which seems to be how she buys supplies for her environmentally considerate form of grafitti. I asked her if I could take a picture of her and her sign. She got mad at me and told me that she's here to spread the gospel, not to take pictures. I told her that I've seen her work all over town and was just curious about where it comes from, and she got mad and started yelling at me again and proceeded to tell me that I'd better not be taking them down, and that she's not the one who spreads them per se (she doesn't walk too good), it's 'her man', whom I assume was the scruffy looking bodyguard of hers leaning against the side of the building she was camped at, looking at me through the corner of his eye.comment to Vancouver Corners: The Repent Sinner's Other Message

In the following comment, I suggest creating an account to post the photo, since the person writing claims to have taken a photo of the black woman in question, although I do express reservation about posting photos of people without their permission (or even, knowledge). It's one of those things though: leave the privacy of your home and your expectation of privacy becomes limited.

I'm researching for a book on eccentric characters and I want to find out more about the Vancouver duck lady. Could someeone please tell me more about her? What about other interesting Canadians? Suggestions anyone? I'm based in New Zealand so I'm relying on some helpful tip-offs from Canucks. Thanks.
