Olympic Truce

I'd not heard about it before, but I've just come across a report about the [weblink:http://www.demos.co.uk/media/pressreleases/16daysrelease/]. As a temporary interloper in Vancouver, it seems to me that the ethnic diversity here gives a perfect opportunity to undertake some of the activities suggested.
With the world's attention on Vancouver, it'd be a great way to show off some of the city's strengths and offer something back to the world. Of course it'd take some money and planning to be effective and memorable, so maybe now is the time to start lobbying for peace-building to be explicitly included in the program.
To quote briefly, "The Olympic Truce dates back to the ancient Greek games when city states suspended hostilities to take part in the Olympiad. The Truce was revived in 1992 and has received unanimous support from the General Assembly of the United Nations."
“If some of that creative energy was directed at inspiring athletes and visitors to take part in peace-building activities during the 16 days of the games, the Olympics could play an increasingly important role in conflict resolution.
