A continuation of the story "3.5 cents per liter."

A continuation of the story "3.5 cents per liter."

By theseed2005 on May 31, 2005 - 10:39am

This is a continuation of the previous post. I am starting to realize that listening to the news is an incredibly depressing event. In the original story I spoke of the oil crisis facing the world today. I also mentioned that China is getting thirsty.

I spoke of G.W. and his plea to America to conserve. Hmmm. It made me think. If we are out, why conserve? What’s the point? Who are we conserving for? The rich? Are we going to be rescued? Is someone going to come get us off of the Island?

I realize that conservation may just buy us some time until we find the next source of energy that we can exploit to levels of exhaustion. And then, shower rinse and repeat until the end of time.

Why the update.

Well, on May 31st, 2005, G.W.B held another news conference. Once again he stressed the oil crisis and the need to conserve.

He also mentioned KAFTA and the fact that products coming into the States from poverty stricken Central America are free of tariffs, whereas, American products going the other way are met with high tariffs. He indicated it was imperative to remove the tariffs, as it would open up a world of 44 million consumers for American products. He said this with no regard for the impact this would have on the people of those nations. He just sees consumers.

He also mentioned Iran and North Korea. He said he was working with 5 major countries to encourage these countries to stop their quest for Nuclear Arms. What does ‘encourage’ mean?

Are we blind? If North Korea and Iran can’t be ‘encouraged,’ does the rest of the world still eliminate their nuclear programs? Who are we kidding?

He also mentioned China. He said with great concern, that they are starting to use resources rapidly, yet, they represent economic possibilities as they provide a world of consumers for American products. Who is flip-flopping now.

He even went as far as to almost say, that China can be a good friend of ours as long as they play by ‘our rules.’ He said that they need to be a land of economic and religious freedoms. He came perilously close to saying that if they align their ‘religious beliefs’ correctly it will be better for the people of China as a whole. He said that China is a complicated animal who ‘may’ be a great ally in the “War on Terror.
