Jim Green running for mayor under the Vision Vancouver
By leanne on July 21, 2005 - 10:33am
Jim Green, Larry Campbell, Raymound Lui and Tim Stevenson held a press conference on the steps of City Hall this morning. Jim announced that he would be running for mayor under the new party name Vision Vancouver. " We have a vision of Vancouver to make it the #1 city in the World. We will work on solving the city's issues of poverty, crime and homlessness." The media was relentless on getting quotes from Jim about Cope but Jim insisted that "an executive from COPE is best to answer about what issues they represent. I really don't know what's going on there." Jim described his party as the alternative to far left or far right parties, situates Vision Vancouver as centre left similar to "Barcelona and the many other successful centre left governments around the world." Jim continued to celebrate the diverse ethnic communities of Vancouver and us planning to meet with all organizations to get their issues. From the development side he is focussing on S.E. False Creek and creating the most sustainable and humane Olympics ever. Thanks to Jim's efforts every Olympic bid now contains a sustainable community plan. Go Jim!
I like Jim Green.
I think he has done a great job of turning the old Woodwards building into a model community development project. I hope that the next city council really works hard on making the Olympic Village a sustainable, long term development.
However, one area where I think Mr. Green lacks so far, is a vision to ensure that a public hospital stays open in the West End and entire Downtown Peninsula of Vancouver.
I am speaking as someone who has been on the other side of the table from some of the candiates. Raymond Louie is a crook and a decietful lying sack. Jim Green is no better. Those two are not working friendly people who follow with what there mandates have been. Instead they take the lower road to gain finacially. They do not have Vancouver in thier best interests.
Vision Vancouver has had a rocky start to say the least. It is unfortuate that people like Tim Stevenson have to be lumped into bad apples like Louie and Green.
Having worked with Jim Green at the FCM I find it hard to believe he's a "crook and decietful lying sack." I've always found him to be very upfront about issues and hardworking. I wish him luck and hope Vancouver embraces the vision of Jim Green.
Look, just learn to live with the results of the election and fight another day. You are only making the party look like a punch of sour grape. Why did your party not kick up a fuss before the election.
Would Cope not running a mayor also be looked at as trying to influence the election? Are you going to tell me, your party is not satisfied until another election is called, wasting more money like the Olimpic vote, the ward vote, now another election give me a break.
Jim,
There are only so many people in the City of Vancouver who are prepared to see the bulk of their tax dollars go to DERA and the downtown eastside. While it may be your ideal, many people, myself included, have decided to relocate rather than live in a community that had idiots like Woodsworth and Tim Louie as councillors and a mayoral candidate who was running on one issue - the Woodwards building's extremely stupid expense. A scaled down version and a look to other needs like the safety of the older members of the community would have served you much better. The outgoing mayor's coattails can only hold so much. Vancouverites have shown that the previous election was a mistake and that several of those elected should not have been. Now lets see you get a job in the real world and continue the payments on your gentrified townhome in Strathcona and the leased luxury vehicle. You might find that when your friends are not in power, you might just have to actually work.
Get on with life! You act as though you just find out James Green was running! How ridiculous; there are a great many ways to handle the situation during the campaign if you felt it was going to "confuse the voter" - give the voters some credit would you! I just heard on the news that the results have been verified and there will not be an investigation - and rightly so. Personally I'm thrilled with the results, in fact I'm going to run outside and turn cartwheels. To know that we have a decent, hard working, fair person at the helm will do a great deal to solidify Vancouver's image particularly as we prepare for 2010 and all that will mean for our Province. Sam Sullivan is a wonderful man who has faced his difficulties head on, has overcome so many obstacles - what have you done, Jim - DRAFT DODGER from that country to our south - I'll bet a lot of folks forgot about that little part- - and now that the people have spoken and kicked your butt out of office you want to whine, snivel and complain that it is someone else's fault! Grow up! Act like a man! Go to work!
