Burns Bog Fire Podcast
By Roland Tanglao on September 12, 2005 - 10:23pm
To try out the omnidirectional powers of the new Sony condenser mike that Boris just bought from Future Shop for $20, Richard, Colin, Boris and I recorded a Burns Bog Fire Podcast (1.2 MB MP3 file, 5 minutes 10 seconds, recorded 12 September 2005).
Show notes after the break (Click "read more").
Show Notes:
- 1 hectare is actually 2.4 acres not 81 as I erroneously stated
- Burns Bog official site (not very helpful, hasn't been updated since 2004)
- Burns Bog wikipedia entry
- Boris's Burns Bog fire scoop
- Rob Cottingham on the Burns Bog fire
- Darren Barefoot on the Burns Bog fire
- Burns Bog flickr photos

hi ronald, i'm interested in your opinion of the mike. i'd like to get one, so wanted to know what your assessment of the mike is. from the podcast, it sounds great. did you need to process the mp3 after recording?
and where else can i find your podcasts?
thank you in advance.
the mike is OK but it only records in mono which is not a big deal for me but maybe for you (not suitable for music for example)
you can find my other podcasts at dogmaradio.com as well as bryght.com
as for processing here's what i do using audacity (audacity.com) which is free: 1. compressor effect 2. high pass filter of 80 hz 3. low pass filter of 11025 Hz and finally 4. convert to mono
hope that helps!

Hi Roland, I like the look of the mike (and the price!) Just wondering - what do you use to record... MiniDisc, mp3 recorder, what's the price range etc..?
Mike
which is a 1 Gig MP3 player and recorder and is about $200
don't need 1 Gig, 256 MB which is much cheaper should be sufficient
I have the 1gig simply to record at very high quality when I need to but 256 MB can do several hours of medium quality so should be good for most purposes
