MooseHat's Vancouver Moose-ings Part 12

A City under construction

It would seem Roland and I are on a similar wavelength. When I came to Vancouver I knew that not everything would be perfect. This picture illustrates my biggest frustration. On the one hand it shows the city is alive and developing. On the other hand making the city more densely populated than New York or London can't be a good thing! Part of the normal cityscape perhaps but the constant banging 6 days a week can be very tiring ...

I suspect you'll be pleased with the end results. Density creates vitality and vibrancy -- it's part of the reason why NYC and London are tourist destinations and sprawlvilles like Dallas, Texas, are not. If cities and what makes them tick fascinate you, as they do me, take a look at the work of Jane Jacobs.

That said, I really do sympathize with being next to a construction site. All last year a developer was building two buildings right behind my house, and it did get pretty old. Be sure that the construction people do observe noise and time regulations. Where I live, they can't start before 7AM or continue after 7PM, and there may also be decibel level restrictions.
