Does anybody really care that Depeche Mode is coming? - Roland's Vancouver Morning Part 86

When I was a kid in the 80s I hated the 60s because it seemed like a secret society where everybody who lived through it was full of idealism about changing the world but didn't actually accomplish much in the end. I bet that's how today's kids think about the 80s (and in particular bands like Depeche Mode who I saw back in the early 1980s at Massey Hall in Toronto).

I care that Depeche Mode is coming to Vancouver. A part of me is relieved that liking the 80's is acceptable again (now I can safely reveal my penchant for Pet Shop Boys and Duran Duran), and then there's a part of me that chuckles when I overhear the hipster shoe sales guy talking about "really starting to dig The Cure". I feel the same way about the 70's though...having been born after that decade, I felt a little shut out by the older kids I looked up to while growing up.
of course I care! and the band's true fans care! and if you were at their concert on tuesday night you'd see just how awesome the band is and how their music keeps evolving...after 25 years of ups and downs for the band members i think they're performing their best yet...the chills you get when you see the fans singing every word of every song...now that's true fans for ya!
