Roland's Vancouver Predictions for 2006
By Roland Tanglao on December 23, 2005 - 11:25am
Remember these predictions are worth what you paid for them :-) ! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everybody!
- The New House in East Van will be done before the end of January 2006.
- The Northern Voice 2006 blogging conference will be a great success like it was last year because we will get the tribes who make the big tent of blogging to mix (normal users not just power users and techies, the knitting bloggers, the techie bloggers, the podcasters, the videobloggers, journalists, lawyers, etc.)
- We'll finally get the Oldest Living Blogger down to Bryght for a photo shoot and maybe a podcast or video blog :-)
- The established media in Vancouver will finally start using RSS and encouraging the conversation through comments, etc.
- There will be more than twice as many Vancouver podcasters and videobloggers in 2006 as there was in 2005.
- The UBC Thunderbird will go full multi-media (blogs, podcasts, and videoblogs) because there's no reason for journalism students not to try out backpack journalism as part of their studies.
- Vancouver will have one or more hyper local sites like H2otown (a neighbourhood of Boston, Massachusetts, USA; disclosure: this is a Bryght site )
- The RSS-ification of Vancouver's "traditional new media" will continue. Look for Emily Carr, VFS and New Media BC to start using systems like the one we use for Urban Vancouver and to get more into blogging, podcasting, and videoblogging.
- Vancouver will have 1 or more unconferences like BarCamp where technical creatives get out of their silos, mix, network and create.
