Macbeth From Pound of Flesh Theatre Society

Macbeth From Pound of Flesh Theatre Society

By Shane Birley on February 28, 2006 - 8:02pm

Here I am again, promoting more of my theatre friends. I have some cool people who are producing Shakespeare's Macbeth at the Russian Hall in April. I am wanting to get the word out before hand since Shakespeare is always wicked.

Macbeth, a captain in the Scottish army, is returning from a battle, a victory - when a seed is planted in his mind. A single thought, a suggestion, an idea that drives him to a cycle of murder. He is compelled to keep killing until he finds the final death that will end his waking nightmare and return to him "the season of all natures: sleep."

Our next major project for April 2006, Macbeth will rely on a new adaptation for 10 actors (currently in work). Here is a world of moral corruption, where God is simply absent - people are left to their own spiritual devices. The resulting deterioration of ethics and virtue is a prophetic wake-up call to our own world as we vainly try to fill a spiritual void with money, technology and material distractions.

Directed by Stephen Drover, Macbeth will feature Todd Thomson in the title role along with the design team of Francesca Albertazzi (set and costume) and Noah Drew (sound composition).
