Check out what the city thinks Vancouver's neighbourhoods are:
We should probably add a generic "Downtown" section. The Drive is definitely a neighbourhood, but what about Main Street?
I think it should and I think that's what you have in mind, nicht wahr?
I still see those as distinct communities -- but what about, you know, the downtown-y part? Basically, along Georgia, the downtown core, and kind of north-west of Georgia to the water -- that's what I would call "downtown"…
The problem with defining neighbourhoods is where to draw the line. I would much prefer to search within specific distances from GeoURL's. (www.geourl.com)
agree with Ian: need GeoURLs
also need common neighbourhood names
i think neighbourhoods like Gastown are established enough to warrant their inclusion in UV despite what the city thinks!
I would like to add "default" GeoURL information based perhaps on the neighbourhood category. As well, override this for individual posts to be more specific. This is development work I was doing before I got corralled into working on this :p
The other solution I see is to link or trackback to another, permanent URL that is associated with a "place", whether it be a store or a set of GPS coordinates that corresponds to somewhere (e.g. the big tree in Stanley Park). After all, UV is more about "news" than it is about "places". Then, lots of people can share stories about places.
Also, display "local" GeoURL links for the current posts.
