Canada Needs an Au Pair Program

Canada Needs an Au Pair Program

By EuropeanServices on February 20, 2007 - 6:24pm

Most every civilized countries in the world have an au pair program, and Canada should, too.

If you are interested in learning more about this issue, please read:

I have written about a. the history of au pair programs in Canada and b. the difference between live-in caregivers and nannies.

Soon, I will be starting a petition to the Right Honourable Stephen Harper with signatures from families/parents/au pairs to get a Canadian Au Pair Program started. From families who need part-time care or unique hours of care, as well as au pairs who would love to come here to learn English and immerse themselves in Canadian culture.

There are so many "au pairs" here unofficially through findaupair or worldaupair or greataupair (or...), and with no official program, there is no protection for the family or nanny when something goes wrong.

If you agree, please leave a comment. Together, things can change!

sir/madam, i'm interested in your aupair program. i'm from the philippines and i'm a graduate of bachelor of science in physical therapy and a caregiver course. I'm a single parent and thus, i took care of my 8 yr old daughter.m And with that I confidently say that i am capable of doing and extending my love to other children because of what i'm been through. Thank you so much! and I hope you would consider me to be in your program. God Bless!

There already is a program for nannies such as yourself coming here under the "live-in caregiver program". An au pair is for someone who is perhaps finishing high school and before they go to university wish to have some overseas experience.

It is kind of like a homestay with a twist.

An Au Pair could only stay a maximum of one year, and that would be over. They have to be under 30 (some countries even say under 25 years old) and they have to be single with no children.

An au pair program could benefit both families and young travellers.
