20,000 Women

My sister-in-law, who is an intelligent and educated woman, has said she is not going to vote in the election because she can't be bothered.
In Blair Wilson's blog, I came across this statistic: "Women make up half of the Canadian population, but only 63 of the 301 members of the House of Commons are women".
Are these two things connected? Are women in general just not interested in politics? If there were more female candidates would more women vote?
Some women are trying to make a difference though - www.youngwomenvote.ca
Maybe if there are any women reading the Politics section of Urban Vancouver, one of them would care to comment...
I am not a woman and I too don't vote. Why? Couldn't be bothered. Canadian politics are so lame and regardless of who's in power, they all screw up.
I too feel mostly apathy about the vote. I don't like any candidate, why do I have to choose the least of evils? Couldn't there be a party that was actually worth voting for? A party that wanted to attack real problems? I'll vote -- but just to make sure we don't end up with some bible-thumping anti-abortionist conservatives in power.
argh
Nowadays, lots of people just don't care about politics (not just women). I guess we all know that whoever we chose to be Prime Minister, he will bound to screw up. So we no longer care. (I'm not making any sense)
I believe it's called "pessimism".
