Garbage Strike Tip: How to catch fruit flies

Don't have somewhere better than the back of your kitchen to store your garbage? Being invaded by fruit flies?
- Cut top off of (ideally) 2L plastic bottle
- Put some fruit scraps into the bottle
- Put the top back on the bottle, but 'upside down' so that the spout is inside the bottle.
- Tape (seal) the bottle back together.
- Fruit flies fly in, can't get back out.
Is that better than TV?
Would that idea work for pigeons?
It would work for pigeons if you had a 400L plastic bottle yes :)
