The Walrus, recently named Magazine of the Year, is published by The Walrus Foundation and is a charitable non-profit organization with a mandate to promote public discourse on matters vital to our country. Through national public events, it is committed to the public square, to celebrating Canadian talent, and to increasing participation in Canadian democracy through spirited and intelligent debate and by lifting the contents of the magazine off the page and onto the stage.

What is it?

  • Wine reception.
  • Lively conversation, hosted by Walrus editor Ken Alexander, featuring Shaw TV's Fanny Kiefer, poets Patrick Lane and Lorna Crozier, and author Michael Byers.
  • Scenes from Big Ticket, a comedy by Jim Garrard, directed by Martin Kinch.
  • Jazz by the sensational Molly Johnson.

Post-reception party at the Vancouver Art Gallery, hosted by chef Rob Feenie and owners David and Manjy Sidoo of Lumiere.

  • Music by pianist Stephan Moccio.
  • Book signing by Intent for a Nation author, Michael Byers.
  • A silent auction including trips, tours, and a chance to appear as a character in the next book by Margaret Atwood, Patrick Lane, John Maclauchlan Gray, Timothy Taylor or Camilla Gibb!

Where is it?

The Walrus Foundation Fundraiser at the SFU Segal Graduate School of Business in Downtown Vancouver.

The Post-reception will take place at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

When is it?

  • 7 pm Wine reception at Segal Centre
  • 8 pm Ken Alexander and guests at Segal Centre
  • 9:30 pm Post-reception at the Vancouver Art Gallery
