There was a "Whole Lotta Love" at the London O2 Centre last night!

Scanning the London (England) online newspapers this morning. The reviews are in. Led Zeppelin was a raving success. They sounded "renewed" not like a "reunion" band just going through the motions. After not playing together for 27 years and pumping out 16 of their most memorable tunes the critics proclaimed they were still the REAL deal.
It is also important to note that Led Zeppelin left the O2 Centre without making any reference to their future together, there was NO “See you next year!” or “Until next time"...
We'll see in the days and months ahead what this REALly means.
Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face
And stars fill my dream
I'm a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race
This world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait
All will be revealed
(first verse "Kashmir")
Maybe it just means they wanted a quick buck for Christmas shopping :)
Hey Ray...if you check-out any of the online London newspapers today - you will see there is very little negative comment about Zep's reunion performance. For whatever reason everyone from fan to critic at the O2 Centre left satisfied - they got their monies worth. Something usually not reserved for boomer bands. Eg. Rolling Stones latest tour was criticized as much as it was praised.
At least Led Zeppelin didn't come out 'filled with plastic - lip syncing' all the way to the bank like the "Spice Girls" did the other night at GM Place.
The correct time in Vancouver is now 10:20 A.M. - The time in London is still 1968!
And if you want all the Whoop, Scoop & Poop, check this website!
I guess Ray you never like to look at old family albums. You seem to be stuck in the present.
Nothing wrong with a little bit of future past - transcending to a time that current music trends (like rap crap) cannot begin to satisfy.
Listening to the roots of one's music genre indulges the soul...at least mine anyway.
And failed miserably. Don't let it get to you -
I have 6 Led Zep LPs in my ancient collection, and the music that I really
like to stroll down memory lane listening to goes back even further than that.
Some of the music I've always been fascinated by dates from the Roaring Twenties,
the decade before I was born. That has always made me wonder, and I can't explain it.
But I love some of those low-tech recordings of people like Ruth Etting, or Helen Kane,
the Poo-Poo-Pe-Doo Girl. I used to play some of my Mom's old 78s on an RCA Victrola
(crank-em-up-and-hope-it-works) record machine in our garage when I was a kid about 6 or 7 - using a very small finishing nail instead of the missing needle. Made a real mess
of the record, but it played OK a few times... "Jan Garber & His Orchestra" bit the dust
out there in the garage, back about 1938... These days, some of that stuff is available on CDs, and I've got a couple of them. Why, I'm just not too sure... Why should I be so
fascinated by the Roaring Twenties? Wish I knew.
Your previous comment Ray re: 1968 did leave me wondering.
If you hadn't linked to that China News website with all its "current" gloom and doom news stories.
I would still be laughing...I am slowly getting to (understand) feel your humour.
My sense of humour probably does need some adjusting. For some reason, I was trying
to paraphrase a smart remark made by some famous Hollywood type years ago, while
comparing New York and London, and it went something like, "Right now, it's 9:00 PM
here in New York, but back in London it's still 1938..." or something like that.
I think it's in a little book called "Quotations With An Attitude" but I'm not going
to look it up just now....
I offered that link to Xinhua English, because sometimes it's good to see how the other side of the world is thinking - too much of our own news and comment comes from our
well-known sources, like CNN, or Canada.com, and is carefully managed to spin things
as our fearless leaders want it spun. Those other guys do that too, of course, but
by checking them sometimes, we can hopefully figure out where the "middle ground" might be....in case there is any, and some days I definitely wonder.
