Shameless Self-Promotion
By Amanda Nicole on January 9, 2008 - 8:07pm
Hey everyone,
I'm indulging in a little shameless self-promotion here, so please bear with me.
I've started another blog, less structured than the others but a little more down to earth, fun and human. It's basically a personal blog about living in Vancouver, to which I'll be adding interviews with local artists, reviews of music, books and events, and generally being out and about in our unique and eclectic city.
http://agirlinvancouver.blogspot.com
Feel free to have a poke around, comment, or contact me with artists you'd like to see interviewed, local events or organizations you'd like to know more about, etc.
I'm also a freelance writer always on the lookout for new and interesting projects, so please don't hesitate to contact me with project ideas or writing opportunities you may have to offer.
Thanks for obliging me, and be well!
Amanda.
Just a thought - by not allowing anonymous comments, you're forcing anyone who wants to reply to become a blogger on Google's blogspot. Not the greatest idea, My Dear. I've had blogs on there
a couple or three times, worked hard at making them look really pretty, and put a hit meter on
there to count visitors, and guess what? I was the only damned soul who ever saw the damned things. So I turfed them and quit wasting my time.
If you'd like something to do during your "out & about" trips, or beforehand via the web,
you should visit Brandy and Rebecca's place. It's called The Regional Assembly of Text, and
you can find it at 3934 Main Street, Vancouver or at:- http://www.assemblyoftext.com/
Check it out - I think you'll find it interesting. Then write us a nice story about it, please.
And I hope you have better luck with your Blogger blogs than I did with mine.
Observation:
If you read the province today the Front and page 3 will make all those who like to shoot realtors gloat with glee. :)
@ Ray - Thanks for the tip about the comments, but I've found on my other blogs that allowing anonymous comments does more harm than good, as it welcomes spammers. My other blogs are growing slowly but surely, and this year I plan on marketing them aggressively, so I hope they grow a readership. That'd be nice.
@ Larry - I hadn't, but I will now. Thanks!
No one is seriously advocating the shooting of real estate salesmen. We just don't want them
hijacking our community blogsite for their infomercials. You'll notice I didn't use the term
"Realtor" because that's a service mark used for a real estate agent affiliated with the Canadian
Real Estate Association, or in the United States, with the National Association of Realtors.
Not all real estate salesmen belong to those groups.
And also "just for the record" your comment here is off the topic under discussion, which is
Amanda's new blog. Please either stick to the topic or start a new post for your new subject.
If you're going to do this, you might as well learn right now how to do it properly.
Ray,
You are right, it was off topic, my apologies to you Amanda.
As for Realtor. You are right again if these comments would allow HTML's ® I would use it. Of course I'll know that the second Post this.
As for setting up a new post, not now thanks. Appreciate the offer.
Composing the main body of a blog does allow the use of some HTML tags, and so do Comments, but only those ones listed underneath the box that you are writing your comment in. Also, you can go back and edit a blog post later, but you can't edit a comment afterward. When it's done, it's "carved in stone". So take your time, don't be nervous, and just try to get it right the first time.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE is no match for NATURAL STUPIDITY
Right on, Amanda. Speaking for the editors, we don't mind self-promotion here on Urban Vancouver as long as it's conversational and not in press-release speak. I fixed the link in your post, as it was a little wonky. You're off to a good start on your BlogSpot blog. Do you want us to add it to the aggregator here? That would mean you get a link on the sidebar of Urban Vancouver's front page every time you post to A Girl in Vancouver.
I've been wondering how I would go about getting a blog in that sidebar. Thanks a lot, Richard. I also have a blog on Vancouver's literary scene, Scene Not Herd.
http://scenenotherd.blogspot.com
If that could get thrown into the sidebar as well, I'd really appreciate it. If not, I understand.
And Ray, I'm not nervous. I'm just not into wasting my time.
Thanks for the support everyone!
Aha, I added that one to the aggregator yesterday.
Thanks again Richard!
I've just added Urban Vancouver to my link list of favourite blogs on my own. Things are rollin'!
The comment I made containing that advice was actually in reply to Larry's comment,
because he seemed to be needing some hints on how all this comes together when done right.
And Congratulations, Luv for now being the champ when it comes to receiving comments!
This is the sort of thing that experts tell us really makes a blog come alive - lots of comments,
so let's not forget how...
Haha, I love comments because they reinforce the fact that the words are not just floating out in ether. Also, that's what I feel blogging is all about: creating dialogue and opening up the floor for all kinds of voices. Keep up the talking, everyone!
