Green Business Web Review Winner Shops Organically on Granville Island

VANCOUVER - January 23, 2008 - A Granville Island shop specializing in organic fabric fashions was a bit surprised when a photographer, a contest winner and a guy with a cheque for $500 came into her store, Organix. While hardly a lotto windfall, all that was missing from the scene was the giant cheque and the confetti!

The contest, promoted by newly-launched BC Green Directory happyfrog.ca, encouraged site members to review green-minded businesses and organizations listed in the comprehensive website. Each quality review resulted in an entry to win the loot to spend at any one happyfrog.ca listed shop, service or charity.

As the green directory review contest winner, Vancouver web designer Alexa Booth faced a compelling choice of 1600 different green minded vendors at which to spend her prize - and she should know as she entered over 30 in-depth reviews.

After deliberation, Ms. Booth chose Organix over the very-hip Devil May Wear design shop. Vancouver photographer Kris Krug came along to take snaps of the proceedings as happyfrog.ca's Community Manager Dave Olson presented the cheque joking, "We didn't think an enormous cheque mounted on foam core was very sustainable - plus they are hard to cash at the bank."

After receiving the in-store credit, Ms. Booth and Organix proprietor Patrica Cosgrove spent the afternoon choosing through a selection of clothing made from organic cotton, bamboo, hemp and soy, as well as household accessories like ultra-soft bamboo towels and BC-made hemp/clay soap.

A avid blogger on sustainability and shopping topics, Alexa expresses her enthusiasm about happyfrog's mission saying, "I've spent a long time collecting a directory of various green/natural/sustainable businesses in the lowermainland and online. And a lot of times, it's not that easy to find what exactly I'm looking for. To finally have a directory like this, and one that is local -- well, I just can't explain how incredibly excited I am."

Happyfrog.ca's Olson posits that, "The prize is a great treat for the winner but the real winners are the small businesses who receives valuable feedback, and the eco-community who enjoy an improved resource to help make greener lifestyle choices."

Shared Vision at Organix

Organix - recently relocated to a larger location on Boatlift Lane - also offer Men's clothes (including selections from Vancouver-based HT Naturals), and organic clothing for babies and toddlers including the outfit featured on the cover of Shared Vision magazine's Green Parenting issue. Ms. Cosgrove also donated two gift certificates for use as prizes in an upcoming happyfrog contest.

Registration on happyfrog.ca is free and allows members to search and review listings as well as submit eco-minded events and green organizations to the directory. Businesses and organizations can add logos, contact info and details to their listings to promote their endeavours at no cost.
