Round One Game Two: Calgary Flames 2 Vancouver Canucks 1
By Richard Eriksson on April 9, 2004 - 10:57pm
Other than to say that I thought the Naslund goal should have been called back, I can say that the Flames deserved to win tonight. I am glad to see that penalties are being called as rigourously than game one, and possibly even more rigourously—twice a tripping penalty and an unsportmanlike penalty for diving were called simultaneously. I'm not so sure diving penalties should even be called: how is it to a teams advantage if a player falls on the ice? Why not just have the ref signal "no penalty" and let the player get up? Mark Cuban has some good thoughts about technical fouls in the NBA and much of it applies as well to the NHL. If unsportsmanlike penalties are "penalties for being a jerk", then 90% of the bench should be in the penalty box.
Also: Linden was invisible except for one late rush and a penalty.
