In a space renowned for the strength and diversity of it’s visual beauty, it might be hard to imagine your other senses taking over… but they will. On the evening of March 14th The Kamloops Art Gallery, currently hosting the exhibit Art and Society in Canada 1913-1950, will touch your ears and your eyes by bringing Canadian visual art and contemporary music together.
Surrounded by the works of Canada’s best-known artists from the first half of the twentieth century, three members of the Kamloops Symphony will perform a concert of live music from living Canadian composers.
Violinist Cvetozar Vutev, pianist Naomi Cloutier, and clarinetist Sally Arai are all members of the Kamloops Symphony in addition to having active careers as chamber musicians and soloists. The trio will present an evening of music by composers Don Ross (The Weather Inside), Imant Raminsh (Aria for Violin and Piano), Gerhard Wuensch (Ménage à Trois: Deux Morceaux), Alan Gilliland (Suite from the Sound) and William Wallace (Trio Concertante to the Verderhr Trio). Come celebrate the importance of Canadian art—art for the eyes, and art for the ears. More info www.musiccentre.ca/nmi.cfm or at 604.734.4622.
Part of the New Music in New Places concert series. Presented by the Canadian Music Centre and the Kamloops Symphony.
