Round One Game Three: Vancouver Canucks 2 Calgary Flames 1
By Richard Eriksson on April 11, 2004 - 10:28pm
Thankfully for the Canucks the net in their end had fat posts, otherwise the game would have been 2-0 Calgary very early. Cooke's goal must have been a backbreaker for the Flames, although I was surprised to see the Canucks close it down as effectively as they did. Fans hate it when other teams do it to the Canucks—although Tom has argued that the best way to beat the Canucks is not to trap—but I wonder how they feel when their team does it with success. Near the end of the game, as humourous as it was to see Rucinsky hit the post with an empty net, it was even funnier to see Iginla and Mattias Ohlund (!) fighting. And who gives body shots? Doesn't Iginla know Ohlund has a chest protector?
Trevor Linden continues to be invisible, but at least we have him for faceoffs. Naslund looks very comfortable out there and I just heard the radio guy badmouth the Sedins, but along with Naslund, they're ones who look like they know what they're doing out there. It's going to be interesting to see how the Flames adjust to Hedberg handling the puck, and they may end up still dumping the puck in, because there was at least one crazy bounce that could have cost the Canucks.
