Immerse yourself in the art of song with some of the world’s great artists and thinkers.
The Vancouver International Song Institute announces the 2nd annual Vancouver International Song Festival, taking place June 8-22, 2008 at the School of Music on the beautiful campus of the University of British Columbia. This festival focuses on Art Song, the powerful realm of fused poetry and music - gateway to a rich world where history, sociology, psychology and philosophy meet in a musical experience of unforgettable intensity.
The Song Festival features a dynamic series of six evening concerts and ten noon hour concerts focusing on Art Song in English and French. Performances will feature leading pianists and singers from around the world, including guest artists Margo Garrett (USA), François Le Roux (France), Sanford Sylvan (USA/Canada), Paul Sperry (USA) and Rosemarie Landry (Canada) in addition to a host of other local and international talent.
Concert repertoire will explore the wide range of Art Song including: French melodié by Poulenc, Messiaen, Debussy and Ravel; the rich and varied contemporary song repertoire of Canada and the United States; a concert focusing entirely on Vancouver treasure Jean Coulthard; and much more. Other events during the festival include public lectures, masterclasses and workshops about Art Song.

All song festival concerts take place in the intimate and acoustically superb Recital Hall at the UBC School of Music (6361 Memorial Road, Vancouver, BC).
TICKETS
Evening concerts: $28 General / $15 for Students and Seniors
Noon Hour Concerts: $10 General / $5 for Students and Seniors
Masterclasses and lectures: $20 per session
