On August 31, 2008, Vancouver will host the Canadian leg of the Nike+ Human Race, a 10km run that will span multiple continents and cover 25 cities worldwide. Vancouver residents are invited to sign up at Nikeplus.com and participants will be treated to an exclusive post-run performance by rockers Theory of a Dead Man and The Trews. Why are so many people, not affiliated with Nike, promoting this event?

The only people this event helps is Nike's already deep pockets. This is ridiculous!

People of Vancouver pay $50.00 to enter this event. Of that $50 entry fee, only $5.00 goes to a charity of your choice, and you get a t-shirt made in Bangladesh by a Nike company that gets paid 12 cents per shirt.

You can benefit the world better if you take that $50.00 entry and donate all of it directly to the charity of your choice. Then on Saturday, run your own 10K and know that all of your money is helping out those who need it.

Hey Grumpy pants, obviously you are not a runner.

1) There is a lot more effort that goes into a race than just the t-shirt, specially for one that was hosted all the way around the world. (road closers, permits)

2) We did get more than a T-shirt (As far as take away items). I even won a pair of shoes and sports band (just for entering the race.

3) They were mostly promoting the fact that race was world wide (not the fact that it was a huge fundraising event)....All races have sponsors. All those people running all the same day is pretty cool. The fact that there was a bit of fun raising was a bonus. (Generally you heard people talking about "the Human Race" in the weeks before not so much the fact that Nike was sponsoring it. Some Marathons are Called the Addidas...what ever the City is and they cost usually around 80 to 100 bucks.

Real runners are always running 10 k on their own, it is really nice to go to a race with some other people and feel like you are part of something. I am always donating to Big Brothers, Sponsor a Family at Christmas locally in my area and give to several other charities.

I Had a Great time at the Human Race!!
