Vancouver Corners: The Repent Sinner's Other Message
By Shane Birley on July 23, 2004 - 7:41am
Repent Sinner is someone who has been placing stickers or pieces of coloured paper around Vancouver for what seems like the last million years. Their handy-work is everywhere. I have seen these new ones around for the last year or so with the message "Accept Christ".
I see a lot of these in my little neck of the world (near Main and 2nd), so, I suspect this person lives nearby since most of the "repent sinner" and "accept christ" paper is very new. But, who knows. The handwriting is the same.
Are you a good person?
Does God see you as a good person?
Answer these questions:
1. Have you ever told a lie? Including white lies. If so, you are a liar and Revelation 21:8 warns that liars will have their part in the Lake of Fire.
2. Have you ever stolen anything? The value is irrelevant. If so, you are a thief and the Bible warns that no thief will inherit the Kingdom of God(1st Corinthians 6:9-10)
3. Have you ever used God's name in vain? The Bible warns that those who use God's name in vain will not be held guiltless on Judgment Day(Exodus 20:7).
4. Jesus Christ says in Matthew 5:28 that if you lust after someone, you commit adultery with them in your heart. Have you ever done that? If so, you are an adulterer at heart.
5. 1st John 3:15 says that if you hate your brother(This isn't talking about just your family, in this context it's talking about anyone), you are a murderer. Have you ever hated anyone? If so, you are a murderer at heart.
If God was to judge you by the Ten Commandments on Judgment Day, would you go to Heaven or Hell?
You say "God wouldn't send me to hell." You're right. YOUR "god" wouldn't send anyone to hell because he couldn't. Your "god" doesn't exist. He's a figment of your imagination. You've created a god in your mind that you are more comfortable with. This is called Idolatry, forbidden by the second commandment. The Bible warns that Idolaters will have their part in the Lake of Fire(Revelation 21:8).
Does the fact that you're headed to hell concern you? It should. Hell is a place of weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth. A place of unquenchable fire where the worm dieth not. A place of everlasting torment, shame, and contempt. A place of never-ending agony and anguish.
However, there is good news for you. God loved you so much that He sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross about 2000 years ago in order that you might be saved from hell. What God requires of you is that you repent of your sins(turn from them and forsake them) and surrender your life to Jesus Christ and put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. There's no other way to be saved. All of the good deeds done in the world couldn't save you. In fact, any attempt to earn salvation by good works is really an attempt to bribe God into turning a blind eye to your sins, and it will not work. In fact, the Bible says in Proverbs 15:8 that the sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to God. That means any attempt by the sinner to earn God's favor by good works or anything else is detestable to God because God sees it for what it is: An attempt to bribe God, the Judge of the Universe, to turn a blind eye to their sins.
The only way to be saved from your sins and from Hell is to repent of your sins and surrender your life to Jesus Christ by putting your faith and trust. in Him as your Lord and Savior. Don't put this off, as you don't know how much time you have left. You might not have another opportunity. Tomorrow might never come. If you die in your sins, you will end up in hell.
If you are willing to repent of your sins and surrender your life to Jesus Christ and trust Him as Lord and Savior in order to receive everlasting life, and you aren't sure what to pray, then pray this:
“Dear God, I repent of all my sins, and I put my trust in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Please forgive me for all my sins and grant me eternal life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
Now read your Bible daily(The Gospel of John and Romans are a good place to start), and obey what you read. God will never let you down. Get into a good Bible-teaching church, and share your faith in Jesus Christ with others.
