Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is good not great like the Paramount Place Cinema

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy film that opened yesterday is, like the Paramount Place Cinema that also opened yesterday, good but not great.
If you are familiar with the books, original radio series or TV show, then you'll be able to make sense of the silly, highly fragmented plot. If not, I think you will struggle.
If you are fan and a purist and you will be amazed at the "Americanization" of film. Ford Prefect as an American? Trillian as an American? Zaphod Beeblebrox as a crazy, swashbuckling American? Not in my Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Still, it's an entertaining romp that is funny in places and beautiful to look at!
Kind of like the Paramount Place Cinema which also just opened yesterday. Beautiful with all the things that are in vogue in cinemas these days: nifty, overly loud digital sound system, decent seats (although I like Tinseltown's seats the best), but no real character unlike the movie theatres of old like the Park, the Ridge, etc.

I've never read the book. The plot was very understandable.
I drove one of these little suckers all over the state of victoria in the early 60's. Three kids and the pram on the top...45mph flat out and 45mph cruise. When the engine finally gave up...three hours later, the mate and I had another in there...Like the man said..ugly as sin. If you got bogged, put her into first gear with a bit of choke on and push the thing out by walking alongside. For the time, it was cheap, never let me down..except one day I went for the brakes and ouch. The only reason I sold the thing, was another nipper came along and there just wasn't any room.
