BC Vintners Have Grape Expectations

British Columbia vintners are taking more and more chances with varieties typically grown in far hotter climates.

Where obscure varieties like Chancellor and Okanagan Riesling once reigned because they were considered winter hardy, you’ll now find Syrah, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Barbera.

But they aren’t stopping there. Growers are pushing the boundaries even further with late-ripening grapes no one would ever expect to be rooted in B.C. soil. If they are a success, they promise a whole new era in British Columbia wine.

Wine For You If Cheap Is How You Feel...

The sleek cerulean bottle belonging to the notoriously retro wine Blue Nun still represents good value for today's palates.

Wine Access Magazine's Annual Value Wine Awards singled out the German Riesling as being one of the best bets for under $25.

There were also eight British Columbia wines on the list.
