In celebration of our recent incorporation as The Memewar Arts & Publishing Society, Memewar Magazine invites you to join us for a night of comedy! Clearly, the mass of legal paperwork involved with becoming a non-profit society was anything but funny, so we needed to host a fundraising event which would let us laugh away our bureaucratic nightmares.
Day: Friday, August 21
Time: 9:00 – 11:30 PM
Place: Café Deux Soleils (2096 Commercial Drive)
Cover: $8
Featuring: comedy performances by Antoinette Keane, James Masters, Christopher James, and Andrew von Rosenbach, improv from Dangerous Portion, and special video presentations by Man Hussy.
Dust off your runners, fluff up those jogging shorts and get ready to hit the streets for the Annual Walk/Run for Colon Cancer Canada. Taking place in Jericho Beach, the fundraiser will give the participants an option of a 5 km walk or a 10 km run.
To date, Colon Cancer Canada has raised more than $4 million for research grants, awareness campaigns, genetic research and Patient Education Nights.
The 5 km Walk/10 km Run will signify the launch of Colon Cancer Canada’s online fundraising campaign. All participants will be eligible to take part in a draw for fantastic incentives and prizes. T-shirts and refreshments will be provided and a number of great family activities will also take place.
Colon Cancer Canada is dedicated to reducing the incidence of colorectal cancer by supporting research initiatives, increasing public awareness and promoting the importance of screening.
Memewar releases its 9th issue on June 20th! Aptly fitting with the "movement" theme of the issue, the event is held at a new location: GOONIES (www.goonies.ca). This is a new venue for us, one that's all ages and wheelchair accessible, and we're excited for the change!
Featuring musical guests:
Candles
Fine Mist
Haunted Beard
Readings from the magazine by:
Sonia Rivest
Mercedes Eng
Besides an evening of entertainment, your $10 cover includes a copy of the magazine and helps to support the next issue. See you at GOONIES!
