Vancouver Folk Festival 2005 Friday Recap
By Richard Eriksson on July 15, 2005 - 11:49pm
We—being myself and the Goddess—caught the last two acts of the Vancouver Folk Festival, one being Buck 65, who is the first hip-hip performer I've seen who DJs for himself, and who's a fine story-teller both in song and in between songs. The other artist was Feist, who put on a set with a beautiful two guitar rendition of "Inside Out", a rockin' version of "Mushaboom" and a sweet "Secret Heart", the highlight of the set. She didn't do "Leisure Suite" as I had expected, but that's possible because two electric guitars wouldn't suit a song with "undo my back zip". If they roll thorugh your town, I recommended seeing both artists (Buck 65 also plays at the festival on Saturday), though I imagine they would be a lot more comfortable shine in a smaller club atmosphere.
At this juncture I'm supposed to mention that Feist, during her set, mentioned that she and Buck 65 did a dance in one of her music videos, and had she known that he would be performing right before her, would have done a dance with him. Actually, she told us that we were to report that she did dance with him on stage, so therefore that's indeed what happened.
