In a scant four years, the 83% pan-Asian Canadian comedy collective known as Assaulted Fish has established itself as one of Vancouver’s funniest acts with intelligent, edgy writing and energetic, polished performances. Formed in 2003, its original seven-person line-up debuted at the Sketchoff!#@$%! comedy competition where they won the audience-picked “People’s Choys Award.”
Currently standing as a six-member troupe, Assaulted Fish is now a staple feature at local festivals including Powell Street Festival and the Vancouver International Fringe Festival, and regularly performs with other local comedy groups such as the Crawford Twins as well as regional comedy groups such as Seattle’s Pork Filled Players.
Members of Assaulted Fish are frequently sought to participate in panel discussions on topics related to the comedy scene as well as on multicultural issues. The group recently began a foray into short films, with the hopes of taking their sketch comedy to local and national film festivals within the next year.
