In the 1980s, something strange happened to R&B. The advent of new technologies meant artists could experiment with electronic equipment, creating a new style of music no one had heard before, a genre now known worldwide as Hip-Hop. But with this new technology, something was lost. Live instrumentation was replaced by computers, and while the music was often exciting and groundbreaking, it often lacked that personal touch that made the soul and funk records of the 60s and 70s so special.
Now, four brothers from Vancouver, BC are here to put life back into a stale urban music scene. They write, they rap, they sing, and they play. Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for the Organik Revolution.
Organik create music that is sure to blow the mind of any music fan. Blending the sounds and styles of hip-hop and R&B with the songwriting sensibilities of the best pop and rock records, Organik have taken the music of classic acts like Sly Stone, Dr. Dre, Jimi Hendrix, and Run DMC, tossed it into a blender, and created a sound that is at once highly original and strikingly familiar. It's sexy, it's stylish, and it's fresh. In 2006, they released their self-titled debut. The record is the culmination of years of writing and recording and the amount of work put it in is evident in the detailed production and sharp arrangements. Sure, this is music to get people jumpin' at your next house jam, but it's also the kind of record that warrants closer listening.
These boys are legit. If you don't believe me, give the disc a spin. I dare you to stop yourself from singing along with the infectious chorus of debut single "Can I Hit You?" Soon enough, you'll be raising your hands to drummer Luke's party-rousing beats, dropping your jaw in awe at the liquid rhymes and hooky melodies of vocalists Catalyst and TK, and nodding your head as D tears it up on the guitar.
The musical sophistication and lyrical cleverness of this band didn't come overnight. Encouraged by their parents, these boys have been playing together since they were kids, working their way through a wide variety of genres and styles, honing their chops and learning the craft of writing the perfect song. For years, they wowed audiences as part of F-Jam with their sweaty, horn-inflected urban funk sound.
In 2001, the brothers broke away and formed Organik. The new name reflected their desire to create music that was pure and soulful, without sacrificing the accessibility necessary to win over fans in today's crowded musical marketplace. Dedicating themselves to both the musical and business aspects of being in a band, they created Or-gan'ik Productions Inc, an independent production company that is quickly growing in size and stature.
Today, they are setting out to take on the world, one show at a time. Their high-energy live performances are marked by crowds with their feet moving and their bodies grooving. If youre looking for something that combines the primal urgency of the best rock shows with the party atmosphere of the best urban shows, Or-gan'ik will blow you away.
The Organik Revolution has arrived. Don't miss it...
